What is the SAVI-lab?

The Swallowing and Voice Imaging Lab (SAVI-lab) is a specialty clinic and research lab housed in the Department of Communication Science and Disorder’s Speech and Language Center at the University of Montevallo. The lab consists of an examination room, patient consultation space, and equipment cleaning space.

Lab Mission:

The SAVI-lab’s mission is to support ongoing research in dysphagia and voice disorders, provide diagnostic imaging and therapeutic services for voice and swallowing-related conditions for our community, and serve as an educational lab for our graduate student clinicians.

Lab Services:

The lab provides flexible and rigid endoscopy (imaging) services to assess the throat, voice and swallowing systems. In addition, the lab also provides video stroboscopy services for the assessment of voice/laryngeal (voice box) function. The SAVI-lab and equipment use are under the direction and supervision of Dr. Mathew B. Vansant, CCC-SLP.
